Students at Islip Manor High School have been celebrating their GCSE results this morning alongside proud parents, families and staff, with remarkable individual achievements reflecting the ambition, determination and diversity of the school community.

There was a celebratory atmosphere at the school on Results Day as students opened their envelopes surrounded by the teachers who have supported them throughout their studies and parents and family members who came to share in the moment.

Leading this year’s celebrations was Sophia, who achieved an exceptional nine grade 9s and one grade 8. Her nine top grades came in English Language, English Literature,Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Geography, French and Business.

Sophia joined the school in Year 9 after moving to London from Manchester and has flourished at IMHS. Describing herself as “overwhelmed” by her results, she praised the support she has received from staff and the school environment.

“I really like it here. All the teachers are very helpful and they ask lots of questions to make sure that everyone understands,” she said.

Sophia will now continue her studies at Islip Manor High School Sixth Form, takingBiology, Chemistry and Maths, with ambitions to study at university and potentially pursue medicine, with Imperial College London her dream destination.

She was joined in celebrating exceptional results by Gurbani, who secured six grade 9s, three grade 8s and a grade 7, with particularly impressive performances across Computer Science, triple science, Maths and Statistics.

“I was jumping around when I opened my results,” said Gurbani, who highlighted the commitment of her teachers throughout her time at Islip Manor High School. She recalled teachers giving up significant amounts of their own time to help her, alongside opportunities including Inspire, Science Club, maths competitions and a school trip to Belgium. Gurbani hopes eventually to pursue engineering or architecture at university.

Nicola also achieved an exceptional set of results, gaining four grade 9s and ten grades at 7–9 overall. Her grade 9s came in English Language, English Literature, Film Studies and Polish. Nicola said she was “proud” and paid tribute to teachers who were alwaysavailable to support students in lessons. She now hopes to pursue a future career in STEM.

This year’s results highlight not only outstanding academic attainment, but also the determination and resilience of students from the many different backgrounds that make up the Islip Manor High School community.

One particularly remarkable story is that of Sadreh, who arrived in the UK from Lebanonand joined slip Manor High School in Year 10 speaking no English. In just two years, she has achieved an extraordinary set of GCSE results, including a grade 9 in Arabic and grade 7s in Chemistry, Physics and Maths.

Sadreh described herself as “happy” with her results and said she loves “the teachers, my friends and the environment” at Islip Manor High School. She plans to study Biology, Chemistry and Maths and has ambitions to become a dental surgeon.

Her story is echoed by Gabriela, who joined the school from Romania in Year 7 and did not speak English until Year 8. She has now completed her GCSEs with an excellent set of grades, headed by grade 8s in Chemistry and French. Gabriela has chosen to remain at Islip Manor for Sixth Form, saying the support she has received since arriving was an important part of her decision.

There was further outstanding success for Moamen, who joined Islip Manor High School from Egypt in Year 9. He achieved nine grades at 7–9, including a grade 9 in Arabic and an impressive run of grade 8s in Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Maths, Further Maths and Geography.

Moamen said his results were “better than expected” and praised the friendly atmosphere of the school and the individual support of his teachers, particularly in Physics and Maths. He plans to continue studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Computer Science.

We are particularly proud of the performance in French, with students securing top grades in a language they had not spoken before learning it at school.

Sophia, Kanika and Nina all achieved grade 9s in French, while Farhan and Gabriela achieved grade 8s.

In Islip Manor High School’s diverse and multilingual community, students are not only proud of the languages and cultures they bring with them; they are also developing the confidence and skills to master entirely new languages.

There was equally impressive success in community languages. Sadreh, Moamen and Mariam achieved grade 9s in Arabic; Nicola and Aga achieved grade 9s in Polish; and Taia achieved a grade 9 in Italian.

Mariam, who joined IMHS from Sweden midway through Year 9, is now staying at Islip Manor for Sixth Form, where she plans to study Chemistry, Psychology and Biology.Together, these achievements are a fitting celebration of the international character of the school: a community where multilingualism is valued as a strength and students are encouraged both to celebrate their heritage and broaden their horizons.

Across the cohort there were many more examples of sustained high achievement.

Kanika secured nine grades at 7–9, including her grade 9 in French and grade 8s in Biology, Chemistry and Maths. She said teachers had encouraged her to become more independent, helping both her academic progress and personal development.

Aarohi achieved eight grades at 7–9, including five grade 8s across Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Maths and Geography.

Gayane produced an exceptionally consistent set of results, with eight grade 7s spanning Photography, 3D, Business, English Language, English Literature, Maths, Statistics and Geography.n

Gayane was particularly proud of her success in Statistics, a subject she only began inYear 11. Describing her Results Day feeling as “ecstatic”, she said: “The teachers pushed me. As I got into Year 9 and 10, I saw my grades going up and up.” She now hopes to pursue a future in finance.

Nina achieved seven grades at 7–9, including her grade 9 in French and grade 8s in Chemistry, Maths and Statistics. She praised the balance between engaging lessons andacademic support at Islip Manor High School and has ambitions to become aneurosurgeon.

Farhan also celebrated an excellent suite of results, headed by three grade 8s in Chemistry, Physics and French, and is considering studying Maths and Physics alongside Economics or Chemistry.

Individual subjects brought further reasons to celebrate. Evie achieved a grade 9 in English Language and grade 8 in English Literature, while the exceptional results in Arabic, Polish and Italian demonstrated the breadth of linguistic talent across the school.

For staff and parents celebrating alongside the students, Results Day was an opportunity to recognise not only the grades themselves but also the individual journeys behind them – from students achieving at the very highest level across almost their entire GCSE programme to young people who have arrived in the UK from overseas, learned English and gone on to achieve remarkable results within just a few years.
